About the role
Underwriting Operations is at the heart of supporting our underwriting teams across processes, data, systems and change and works on a mix of BAU, tactical and project timelines.
The Underwriting Operations team works with a range of other teams across the business, including liaising with Odyssey Group functions, to provide a clear and stable day-to-day operating model and delivering continuous improvement to existing processes and tools.
This is a key function for the Group as it underpins the data that drives decisions everywhere within the business, so accuracy, consistency and timeliness are paramount. Further, a smooth and stable Underwriting Operations function supports high quality underwriting and a great service proposition to our brokers and clients as well as underpinning our regulatory compliance and resilient financial performance.
Main areas of responsibility
- Executing existing business processes and delivering improvements in a data-led way, both as part of the Underwriting Operations team and with other teams across the business, on a mix of BAU, tactical and project timelines.
- SME role with ownership of new and existing processes, tools and controls including maintaining and developing process documentation.
- Collaborating on the design, implementation and evolution of new tools and technology that supports underwriting processes and controls in collaboration with other stakeholders at the Group and within business Group.

- Able to demonstrate an strong understanding of standard underwriting and operational processes within commercial insurance, including experience of executing change to operational processes and/or underwriting platform(s)
- Proven operational delivery experience in the insurance sector
- Previous experience in the commercial insurance sector as an Underwriting Assistant/Assistant Underwriter or within Operations/MI, would be beneficial
- Able to perform data analysis and manipulation within MS Excel including functions such as Tables, Pivot Tables, formulae (VLOOKUP, IF, SUM) etc.
- Experience with using SQL server to query databases would be beneficial
- Experience with MI platforms such as Tableau and Power BI is an advantage, however a willingness to invest in further data skills to support the development of the Group data capability is a must
- Comfortable with MS Word, Outlook, Teams etc.
