Overview

This role supports the ongoing stability, performance, and security of the organisation’s data infrastructure within a Lloyd’s market insurance environment. The successful candidate will play a hands-on role in managing SQL Server databases, supporting cloud-based data solutions, and ensuring reliable access to high-quality data across the business. It is well suited to an early-career database professional looking to develop deeper platform and infrastructure experience within a collaborative, technically focused organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain SQL Server databases to ensure data integrity, availability, and performance

  • Monitor and maintain database security, access controls, and permissions

  • Ensure database backup processes are operating correctly and perform ad hoc backups and restores when required

  • Support database deployments, upgrades, and changes, including running scripts and releases

  • Assist with ETL processes and data integration activities

  • Support and maintain online reporting tools, including Power BI

  • Use PowerShell to create and manage automated tasks and processes

  • Work closely with stakeholders across technology, finance, underwriting, and operations to support data-related requirements and system reliability

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and database administration fundamentals

  • Excellent Transact-SQL (T-SQL) skills

  • Experience working with ETL tools and data integration processes

  • Understanding of cloud-based data solutions, ideally within Microsoft Azure

  • Experience supporting or maintaining Power BI or similar reporting tools

  • Exposure to PowerShell for automation and task scheduling

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels

  • Collaborative, approachable, and proactive mindset


Desirable but Not Essential

  • Experience in the Lloyd’s or wider insurance market

  • Exposure to database migrations or cloud transformation initiatives

  • Relevant certifications (or working towards) in SQL Server, Azure, or data engineering
