Job Title: Investigations Specialist
Location: London
Salary Range: £85,000 per annum 
Reporting to: Senior Financial Crime Officer
Type: Fixed-Term Contract (6 months)

Overview:
This is an opportunity for an experienced investigations professional to join a specialist insurance business on an initial 6-month contract. The role is focused on leading financial crime-related investigations, managing suspicious activity and fraud referrals, supporting external reporting obligations, and helping strengthen internal investigation processes and controls. It would suit someone with strong insurance investigations experience who is confident handling sensitive cases, producing clear reporting, and working closely with business stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage new and ongoing financial crime-related investigations, including fraud and money laundering referrals
  • Maintain accurate case files, investigation records, and progress updates for senior stakeholders
  • Prepare external reporting submissions where required, including suspicious activity reporting
  • Produce internal management information and case outcome reporting for senior management and governance committees
  • Maintain and improve the fraud log, ensuring clear visibility of key case data and investigation outcomes
  • Review and investigate fraud screening alerts through to resolution
  • Provide guidance and training to first line teams on investigations handling and fraud-related matters
  • Recommend control improvements and remedial actions where suspicious activity or fraud is identified
  • Support the ongoing development of investigation processes, documentation, and reporting standards

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong insurance investigations experience
  • Advanced knowledge of the insurance market and claims / underwriting environments
  • Good understanding of civil and statutory law relevant to investigations and reporting obligations
  • Experience evaluating intelligence, evidence, and sensitive information to support investigations
  • Proven ability to produce clear investigation reports, recommendations, and management reporting
  • Experience handling confidential and high-risk matters with discretion
  • Ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders and provide practical guidance to the business

Desirable but Not Essential:

  • Knowledge of wholesale, retail, or London market insurance
  • Familiarity with UK, European, and international regulatory or legal reporting requirements
  • Experience working with fraud detection or screening tools
  • Exposure to external agencies or bodies such as law enforcement, regulatory authorities, or financial crime agencies
  • Training, coaching, or advisory experience
  • Experience producing procedural or policy documentation
