Job Title: Underwriting Assistant
Location: London
Salary Range: Competitive, dependent on experience
Reporting to: Class Underwriter
Type: Permanent

Overview:
This is an excellent opportunity for an organised and detail-oriented individual to support a specialist underwriting team within a London market syndicate environment. The role plays a key part in ensuring accurate risk data capture, portfolio monitoring, and high-quality reporting. It offers strong exposure to underwriting operations and provides a solid foundation for career progression within the Lloyd’s market.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately input risk data into internal underwriting and rating systems
  • Maintain and update aggregate data within risk modelling software
  • Liaise with underwriting support functions to resolve data queries and clear system errors
  • Review and clear data quality reports in a timely manner
  • Assist underwriters in producing regular management information and ad hoc reports
  • Respond to broker queries and support effective communication
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with brokers and clients
  • Develop a thorough understanding of assigned accounts and portfolio performance
  • Support underwriters in preparing the annual business plan and portfolio analysis
  • Ensure all activities are carried out in line with regulatory and conduct standards


What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong numeracy skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
  • High level of integrity and professionalism
  • Organised, proactive and able to use initiative
  • Eagerness to learn and develop within underwriting
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines


Desirable but Not Essential:

  • A-Level or university education (numerical or analytical degree preferred)
  • Previous experience within insurance (approximately 1 year beneficial but not required)
  • Exposure to underwriting systems or risk modelling tools
  • Evidence of commitment and teamwork through extracurricular interests or activities
