Job Title: Senior Underwriting Analyst – Open Market Property
Location: London
Salary Range: Competitive (dependent on experience)
Reporting to: Divisional Head (Open Market Property)
Type: Permanent / Hybrid (subject to business requirements)

Overview:

This role supports an Open Market Property underwriting team by owning and enhancing the data, tooling, and insights that drive underwriting decisions and portfolio performance. You will work closely with underwriters and senior stakeholders to analyse portfolio data, build dashboards and monitoring processes, and improve data quality and operational efficiency across the underwriting lifecycle. The position is ideal for someone who enjoys combining technical analysis with commercial thinking and who can influence change through better information, automation, and improved processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyse, interpret, and control multiple data sources to inform underwriting direction, portfolio optimisation, and decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain portfolio dashboards and monitoring processes, partnering with underwriters to define KPIs, insights, and performance measures.
  • Provide structured and ad-hoc portfolio management support using relevant portfolio tools and internal systems (e.g., portfolio monitoring, reinsurance placements, modelling outputs).
  • Act as a key liaison between underwriting and internal partner teams (e.g., exposure management, data/MI, claims, and reinsurance) to ensure data needs are understood and delivered.
  • Support the investigation and troubleshooting of catastrophe modelling outputs and portfolio analytics, working with exposure management as required.
  • Improve data capture standards and data quality, providing guidance on structure and content to support downstream actuarial and analytical systems.
  • Engage with external partners (e.g., brokers, coverholders, and third-party administrators) to improve data integrity, streamline processes, and support efficient data transfer.
  • Contribute to initiatives that improve productivity and underwriting effectiveness, including exploring automation and AI-enabled tools to enhance analysis and workflow.
  • Operate in line with organisational values and behaviours, and comply with relevant conduct and financial crime requirements.
What We're Looking For:
  • Strong understanding of Open Market Property business, with experience in property D&F and exposure to portfolio-level analysis.
  • Experience with catastrophe risk modelling and interpretation of outputs; familiarity with market-leading tools (e.g., RMS and/or AIR).
  • Advanced Excel capability and confidence working with complex datasets.
  • Experience with portfolio management platforms and processes used within underwriting and reinsurance environments.
  • Ability to build and maintain dashboards using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik.
  • Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to challenge the status quo and drive improvements.
  • High accuracy and attention to detail, with a structured, outcome-focused approach to analysis and delivery.
Desirable but Not Essential:
  • Working knowledge of underwriting administration systems (e.g., Sequel or equivalent) and a willingness to develop further.
  • Exposure to AI language models and practical use cases (e.g., productivity improvements, analysis support) and interest in developing capability.
  • Experience building automation or AI-enabled tooling to support underwriting workflow and portfolio optimisation.
About the Company:

A well-established London market insurer with a strong underwriting reputation and a growing focus on data-driven decision-making. The business is investing in portfolio analytics, tooling, and operational efficiency to strengthen underwriting performance, enhance data quality, and support profitable growth across its specialty lines.
