Location: London
Salary Range: Competitive (DOE)
Reporting to: Head of Data Management (or equivalent)
Type: Permanent / Hybrid
Overview:
This role leads the development and operation of enterprise Master Data Management (MDM) capabilities to ensure core master and reference data is accurate, consistent, and governed across systems and business areas. You’ll act as the MDM and data governance subject matter expert—setting standards, driving adoption of stewardship models, improving data quality controls, and ensuring regulatory alignment—while also remaining hands-on in configuring tooling and delivering measurable improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Master data strategy & governance: Define and implement the enterprise MDM strategy aligned to the broader data platform, architecture, and governance framework.
-
Domain master data ownership: Own and evolve master data models for key domains (e.g., Policy, Claims, Counterparties/Legal Entities, Chart of Accounts), ensuring consistent definitions, hierarchies, and lineage.
-
Lifecycle & control management: Lead governance processes to maintain master data accuracy, version control, and lifecycle management across multiple systems and jurisdictions.
-
Stewardship and accountability: Establish and embed data ownership and stewardship operating models, partnering with business leads to drive accountability and adoption.
-
Metadata, taxonomy & lineage: Oversee metadata management, taxonomy design, and lineage tracking using governance tooling (e.g., Microsoft Purview and equivalent platforms).
-
Data quality & compliance: Define and enforce data quality standards, thresholds, and controls to support reporting, regulatory submissions, and analytics; implement validation, reconciliation, and exception management processes within the MDM toolset.
-
MDM tooling & operations: Lead configuration and operational management of the MDM platform (e.g., Profisee or equivalent), including integration with cloud data warehouses and downstream systems (e.g., Snowflake/Azure services).
-
Mastering rules & golden records: Develop mastering rules, survivorship logic, and golden record processes; document standards and workflows to support auditability and scale.
-
Automation and continuous improvement: Drive improvement of MDM automation, metadata capture, and workflow orchestration to improve efficiency, scalability, and control.
-
Stakeholder engagement: Act as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams on master data matters, ensuring alignment on priorities and outcomes.
-
Enablement & governance reporting: Deliver training and guidance for data owners/stewards; support reporting against governance KPIs (quality metrics, adoption, compliance).
What We’re Looking For:
-
Extensive experience (typically 10–12 years) in data management, data governance, and/or MDM delivery, ideally in insurance, reinsurance, or financial services.
-
Proven track record implementing or managing enterprise MDM platforms (e.g., Profisee, Informatica, Reltio, or similar).
-
Demonstrable experience defining and governing master data models across multiple domains (e.g., Policy, Claims, Legal Entity/Counterparties, Chart of Accounts).
-
Strong experience embedding data ownership and stewardship models into business operations, including change management and adoption practices.
-
Hands-on data quality management experience (rule definition, measurement, remediation workflows, exception handling).
-
Strong knowledge of governance frameworks and operating models (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM or equivalent).
-
Solid understanding of regulatory expectations and controls impacting data management (e.g., GDPR, Solvency II, DORA or equivalent, depending on footprint).
-
Deep familiarity with metadata management, taxonomy design, and data lineage principles.
-
Understanding of integration and architecture patterns between MDM platforms and data warehouses/lakes (e.g., Snowflake and/or Azure data services).
-
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across business and technical teams.
Desirable but Not Essential:
-
Experience working across Finance, Actuarial, Claims, and/or Investments data domains.
-
Exposure to modern cloud data platforms and operating models (data products, domain ownership, federated governance).
-
Experience defining governance KPIs and building reporting/monitoring for adoption and quality outcomes.
-
Familiarity with broader reference data management practices and complex hierarchy management across entities and jurisdictions.
About the Company:
A well-established organisation in the insurance/financial services sector with a strong reputation for technical expertise and disciplined risk management. The business is investing in enterprise data governance, modern data platforms, and operational resilience to improve data trust, regulatory confidence, and decision-making at scale.
