Senior Underwriter – Property Delegated Authority

Role Summary

The Senior Underwriter will take a leading role within the Property Delegated Authority team, underwriting a diverse portfolio across International and US markets. The role is responsible for driving underwriting performance, managing key broker and client relationships, assessing new opportunities, and contributing to the strategic development of the portfolio. This includes oversight of delegated authority arrangements, performance monitoring, technical underwriting, and mentoring junior team members.


Key Responsibilities

Underwriting Leadership

  • Lead the underwriting and management of the Property Delegated Authority portfolio across International and US territories.

  • Assess, underwrite, and structure new and renewal DA opportunities in line with strategy, appetite, and performance targets.

  • Exercise strong technical judgement on referrals, complex submissions, and borderline risks.

  • Approve endorsements, amendments, and key underwriting decisions within delegated authority.

Portfolio & Performance Management

  • Monitor underwriting performance monthly, identifying trends, exposures, and corrective actions where needed.

  • Oversee catastrophe modelling inputs, aggregate management, and monitoring of accumulation exposures.

  • Ensure high-quality data capture across systems, with accountability for accuracy of premium and underwriting data.

  • Review bordereaux, audit findings, and coverholder reporting, escalating issues where appropriate.

Broker & Client Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key brokers and clients, acting as a senior market representative.

  • Deliver underwriting presentations to brokers, coverholders, and internal stakeholders.

  • Communicate risk appetite clearly to the market, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.

  • Support business development initiatives to attract high-quality opportunities.

Operational Excellence

  • Ensure all systems are updated following endorsements, amendments, audits, and underwriting decisions.

  • Oversee data quality in submissions, challenging or rejecting inadequate information.

  • Liaise with credit control on premium collections and resolve outstanding issues.

  • Maintain accurate documentation, meeting minutes, and underwriting records.

Team & Leadership Responsibilities

  • Provide mentorship and technical support to junior underwriters and assistant underwriters.

  • Support internal training initiatives and contribute to the development of team capability.

  • Contribute to team planning, strategic discussions, and departmental projects.

  • Act as a point of escalation for underwriting or operational issues.

Regulatory & Governance Expectations

  • Complete required annual product reviews within agreed timelines and ensure relevant approvals are recorded.

  • Follow all product governance and delegated authority processes, ensuring compliance at all times.

  • Ensure that agents, coverholders, and service providers uphold standards of fair customer outcomes and conduct.


Skills & Competencies

  • Strong technical underwriting skills across Property Delegated Authority and exposure-based portfolios.

  • Excellent analytical capability, including advanced Excel and data interpretation skills.

  • Comfortable presenting to internal and external stakeholders at a senior level.

  • Strong relationship management with the ability to influence brokers and coverholders.

  • Highly organised, able to prioritise multiple deadlines, and remain effective in a fast-paced environment.
