Overview
This is a senior and highly visible actuarial pricing role focused on supporting Property (Fire and Technical Lines) underwriting across the UK and Ireland. The role involves strategic partnership with underwriting teams, delivering actuarial insights to support portfolio performance, pricing adequacy, and business growth. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership in pricing tool development, portfolio monitoring, and risk parameterisation while contributing to key strategic initiatives and cross-functional projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the lead actuarial partner for Fire and Technical Lines underwriters across the UK and Ireland, driving portfolio performance evaluation and strategies to enhance underwriting outcomes and book growth.
- Lead portfolio management and risk selection initiatives using advanced technical modelling techniques, including responsibility for portfolio reviews, forecasting, and planning.
- Develop and maintain exposure and experience-based rating models and pricing tools to support both benchmark and case pricing. Ensure tools are robust, calibrated, and aligned with business needs through collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
- Monitor and analyse key performance trends and portfolio metrics, such as renewal rate changes, new business adequacy, and inflation impacts, and present findings to underwriting teams and senior management.
- Lead the parameterisation of underwriting risk specific to the UK and Ireland Property portfolio.
- Support internal and external reinsurance submissions and assist in appropriate allocation of reinsurance structures.
- Collaborate with wider actuarial functions, including reserving and catastrophe modelling, on joint initiatives and knowledge sharing.
- Provide mentorship and indirect oversight of junior pricing actuaries within the Short Tail pricing team.
What We're Looking For
- A motivated self-starter with strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively across diverse professional backgrounds in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated experience in insurance pricing, including case pricing and portfolio management. Able to take initiative and lead projects to completion, while providing guidance to junior team members.
- Strong technical expertise in loss cost modelling, statistical analysis, and exposure-based pricing methodologies.
- Solid understanding of commercial insurance and catastrophe risk frameworks.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex actuarial concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, with a strong aptitude for learning new software. Familiarity with the following is desirable: Dataiku, Qlik, VBA, R, Radar, ResQ, Python.
- Fully qualified actuary or nearing qualification.
