Role Overview

This is a rare opportunity for an established Energy Liability underwriting leader to launch and grow an Onshore and Offshore Energy Liability portfolio on a well-capitalised London market platform.

The role is designed for an individual with a strong broker network and a clear underwriting vision, who is ready to take full ownership of portfolio strategy, underwriting performance, and growth. You will have direct responsibility for building a profitable book, shaping underwriting appetite and governance, and playing a key role in the broader growth of the platform.

Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Strategy & Leadership

  • Define and execute the underwriting strategy for an Onshore and Offshore Energy Liability portfolio, aligned to long-term business objectives.

  • Set underwriting appetite, pricing discipline, and risk selection standards to drive sustainable profitability.

  • Use data, market insight, and loss experience to continually refine portfolio performance.

Portfolio Ownership & P&L

  • Build, manage, and grow a profitable Energy Liability portfolio with full P&L accountability.

  • Own underwriting performance, capacity utilisation, and contribution to overall platform results.

  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure effective portfolio governance and reporting.

Broker & Market Engagement

  • Leverage an established broker network to generate high-quality deal flow and build a strong market presence.

  • Position the platform as a credible and preferred underwriting partner for Energy Liability risks.

  • Maintain strong, long-term broker relationships across UK and international markets.

Team Build & Development

  • Build and lead an Energy Liability underwriting team as the portfolio scales.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture.

Act as a subject matter expert on emerging energy liability risks and market developments.

  • Proven track record underwriting Onshore and Offshore Energy Liability in the London market.

  • Demonstrated experience building and managing profitable portfolios.

  • Deep technical understanding of energy liability risks, wordings, and claims trends.

  • Commercial mindset with strong strategic and data-driven decision-making capability.

Experience mentoring or building underwriting teams is highly desirable.
