Purpose of the Role:

To support the Bermuda Property team in providing a first class claims service

Key Role Accountabilities:

Principal Tasks
  • Handling of Property claims placed in Bermuda
  • On receipt of claim notification, identify risk, review details in conjunction with coverage/wording afforded, acknowledge to client/intermediary, prepare claims file accurately and promptly and maintain in-house and external computerised claims records
  • Building meaningful relationships with Clients, experts and insurers by dealing with them in a prompt, friendly and professional manner at all times
  • Flagging any potential contentious/difficult claims matters within the team and assisting with resolution
  • Producing claims information and presenting to (re)insurers, either in written or networked format; and dealing with any resultant instructions, queries and enquiries
  • Monitoring insurers’ agreement and payment of funds and ensuring that payment is made to the appropriate beneficiary
  • Identifying any potential errors and omissions if situations arise
  • Ensuring relevant (re)insurer’s instructions are notified to Client/expert and vice versa
  • Ensuring effective liaison with placing team, including, where required, the maintenance and provision of claims statistics for renewal or similar purposes
  • Ensuring effective liaison with accounting colleagues both in respect of collection/payment of funds, any queries and the subsequent clearance of accounting entries
  • Maintaining claims filing
  • Keeping up to date with market and system changes
  • Monitoring workload and reporting to management as appropriate
 

Generic Knowledge Requirements

 

Minimum 1-2 years of property claims expertise in London and/or Bermuda Market, ideally working on US business
Sufficient knowledge and understanding of the relevant aspects of the Law of Agency and the Law of Contract to be able to perform the Principal Tasks
Sufficient knowledge and understanding of the general concepts of insurance to be able to perform the Principal Tasks
Good working knowledge of the Underwriters and markets, their practices, documentation and customs
Good working knowledge of relevant insurance and regulatory procedures.
 

 

Qualifications & Experience:

 

Necessary Qualifications and Experience:

1-2 years handling Property Claims, ideally US business
Ability to use Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Strong numeracy skills
Strong communication skills
Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
 

 

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

ACII completion or working towards a CII designation
A level and/or Undergraduate degree
Knowledge of Global XB and Brokasure internal claims system
