Title: Casualty Underwriter
Location: Based in London circa 3 days a week and home.
Salary: Competitive

About the role:
To underwrite, analyse and continue to develop the Account in line with the Annual Business Plan targets

Key Responsibilities
  • Leading new business onboarding and renewal processes for relevant casualty binding authority accounts, including preparation of binding authority business plans.
  • Liaising with relevant syndicate and managing agency departments including actuarial, claims, compliance and delegated authority teams
  • On going binder portfolio oversight for relevant casualty binding authority accounts including spotting trends, monitoring performance against plan and implementing guideline updates as required
  • Identifying new business opportunities, both via new sources and within existing portfolios
  • Working closely on cross class initiatives with other syndicate underwriting teams
  • Assisting in market place monitoring, including developing casualty relationships with brokers and other key external stake holders.
  • Working closely with, and maintaining strong relationships with coverholders & brokers
  • Ownership of day to day referral underwriting for relevant casualty binding authority accounts within individual underwriting authority parameters.
  • Assisting in execution of business development and marketing plans for the casualty team
  • Attending and leading relevant client meetings and executing relevant follow up research and actions as required
  • Attending and materially contributing to internal peer review and coverholder oversight meetings
  • Working with other syndicate departments to identify and implement areas for continuous improvement, including input to the Graphene underwriting platform, and new systems and controls to ensure that the underwriting department operates in a compliant and efficient manner.
  • Assisting with wider casualty team requirements including but not limited to underwriting review packs, Lloyd’s RDS and information collation for external stake holder
  • Undertaking research and prepare papers / presentations on insurance related projects
  • Assisting with wider team administrative tasks as and when required
 
  • Knowledge, qualifications, skills and experience
  • Proven underwriting ability/competence with a minimum of 5 + years experience within the casualty / delegated authority space
  • ACII qualified or working towards completion of this qualification is not essential but preferred 
  • Understanding of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of casualty underwriting and binding authority management
  • Understanding of the casualty market in the UK and Ireland
  • Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills.

  • Commitment to needs of the clients and strong relationship management skills.
