Job Role: Assistant Underwriter, Marine & Cargo
Location: London 
Salary: £40k 

Purpose of role
Support the Marine Team in the administering and underwriting of the Marine Portfolio.

Main areas of responsibility
  • Assist/underwrite the Marine portfolio in accordance with Underwriting Policy and under guidance of the Underwriters where applicable.
  • General administration of the Marine account, ensuring all systems are kept up to date.
  • Ensure that rating tools as well as all vendor models at disposal are used as appropriate for the purpose of making an underwriting decision.
  • Ensure that proposed contract wordings are fully reviewed and comply with the Marine Team’s underwriting policy/stance.
  • Ensure that all underwriting decisions are supported by adequate documentation, including written evidence of referral where appropriate.
  • Marketing and representation of Newline during trips and functions
  • Maintain and develop broker and client relations.
  • Assist the Marine Team in the production of periodic reports on aggregate exposure, capacity usage, stress test and quarterly reserving.
  • Liaise with other Underwriting departments, Actuarial, Claims, Compliance and Accounting.
  • Liaise with other Newline offices regarding common underwriting issues.
  • Assist the Marine Team in training new recruits if applicable.

Education/Experience
  • Comfortable with Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Previous London Market insurance experience
  • Previous experience with underwriting administration
  • Experience/knowledge of Marine is desirable but not essential
