Overview
Lead a mid-market commercial property portfolio to deliver profitable growth and excellent customer outcomes. This role owns the underwriting approach, portfolio mix, pricing strategy and underwriting quality, translating data-driven insight into clear commercial decisions and coaching regional underwriting teams to execute.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the performance of the mid-market commercial property account against plan (loss ratio, growth, expense).
- Set and evolve underwriting, pricing and portfolio strategies; shape risk appetite and portfolio mix.
- Drive robust performance management, rating adequacy and technical underwriting standards.
- Provide clear P&L insight and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
- Partner closely with Pricing, Actuarial, Finance, Claims, Data/Analytics and regional underwriting teams to optimise results.
- Lead a small specialist team; coach regional underwriters and uplift technical capability.
- Communicate complex data and strategy simply; champion a strong risk and control culture.
- Significant portfolio management experience and a track record of profitable, commercially minded technical underwriting.
- Deep commercial property underwriting expertise, ideally mid-market.
- Strategic thinker able to anticipate changing risks and market dynamics.
- Strong communicator, coach and stakeholder manager with leadership experience.
- Comfortable converting analytics into practical actions for underwriting teams.
- Experience influencing regional networks and broker markets.
- Exposure to pricing tools, market pricing and portfolio optimisation techniques.
- Familiarity with automation, data/MI and performance dashboards.
