Salary: £35,000

Type: Permanent / Hybrid


Overview
We are seeking an Underwriting Assistant – Property Programmes to provide day-to-day support to Underwriters and contribute to the successful management of a portfolio of property programme business.
The role will support Underwriters in achieving business plan underwriting profit targets while operating within established risk appetite, pricing and governance frameworks. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate and timely risk and exposure data, supporting reporting and portfolio reviews, and liaising with brokers and other market participants to resolve queries and maintain effective relationships.
The role also provides an opportunity to develop a strong understanding of the property programmes account, the Lloyd’s and London insurance market, and the regulatory and governance requirements relevant to the role.
Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately enter and maintain risk data on internal systems, including rating models.
  • Ensure aggregate and exposure data is input accurately and on a timely basis into risk modelling software.
  • Review and resolve data quality issues, working with relevant stakeholders to ensure errors are cleared promptly.
  • Check and clear data quality reports, ensuring information is complete, accurate and up to date.
  • Assist Underwriters with the preparation of regular and ad hoc reports.
  • Liaise with brokers to respond to and resolve queries efficiently and professionally.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with brokers, clients and other relevant market contacts.
  • Develop a detailed understanding of the property programmes account and its underlying risks.
  • Support Underwriters in the preparation and development of the annual Business Plan.
  • Support portfolio reviews by providing relevant reports, data and analysis.
  • Assist with the quarterly review of the portfolio and liaise with relevant stakeholders regarding exposure management information.
  • Support ongoing risk data cleansing and quality control activities.
  • Assist the underwriting team in achieving business plan objectives while operating within established risk appetite and governance requirements.
  • Maintain an awareness of relevant regulatory, market and industry developments affecting the property insurance market.

Education / Experience
  • Education to A-level or equivalent.
  • Previous experience within insurance or financial services would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • An interest in developing a career within commercial insurance and underwriting.
  • A willingness to learn and develop technical knowledge of property insurance, underwriting and the London insurance market.

IT Knowledge
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Comfortable working with data and business systems.
  • Ability to learn and use specialist underwriting, rating and risk modelling systems.
