Job Title: Underwriting Assistant – Financial Lines
Location: Bristol
Salary Range: £27,000
Type: 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract

Overview:
This role sits within an operations function and serves as a key administrative link between underwriting teams and business support. The primary objective is to ensure that risks, along with any amendments, are accurately processed onto internal systems in a timely manner.
The role requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in line with system deadlines, service level agreements (SLAs), and key performance indicators (KPIs). The position supports Financial Lines business, including Directors & Officers (D&O) and Professional Lines across multiple locations.

Key Responsibilities:
Documentation & Risk Administration:
  • Accurately prepare and update documentation required for processing submissions, policies, and policy amendments, including front sheets and rating tools.
  • Maintain and update trackers and renewal lists in line with status changes.
  • Liaise with underwriting teams to obtain all necessary information for processing.
  • Submit completed documentation to offshore processing partners within agreed SLAs.
  • Perform quality assurance checks (four-eye reviews) on financial data entered by offshore teams, providing sign-off or requesting corrections as needed.
  • Respond to booking and quality control queries within agreed SLAs.
  • Ensure all documentation is filed in accordance with established procedures.
  • Monitor personal performance against SLAs and KPIs.
  • Identify and correct data quality issues in a timely manner.
  • Assist in resolving transactional data management issues within SLA timeframes.
  • Support weekly processes, including resolution of unallocated cash and outstanding debt queries.
  • Contribute to month-end close activities as required.
  • Maintain system knowledge through regular hands-on processing.
  • Investigate and respond to items highlighted in monitoring reports.

Communication:
  • Proactively communicate potential backlogs or workload challenges to relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide regular updates on progress against SLAs and KPIs.
  • Respond to queries within agreed timelines, providing updates where delays occur.
  • Participate actively in team meetings and one-to-one discussions.

Ancillary Tasks & Teamwork:
  • Support audit activities as required.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating training materials for internal and offshore teams.
  • Provide training to offshore teams, new starters, and colleagues when required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying and suggesting process enhancements.
  • Support ad hoc tasks, projects, and broader team activities as needed.
  • Assist with system and process change initiatives.

Stakeholder Management:
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with underwriting stakeholders to ensure service expectations are met.
  • Capture and respond to feedback to improve service delivery.
  • Identify and escalate data quality or operational issues where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders such as claims, risk, and finance teams.
  • Liaise with brokers to support account management where required.
  • Escalate critical issues to management in a timely manner.

Professionalism & Compliance:
  • Adhere to all relevant regulatory and internal compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrate high standards of integrity, professionalism, and customer focus.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and frameworks, including conduct rules, financial crime prevention, data protection, and conflicts of interest policies.

What We’re Looking For:
  • Previous experience within insurance, ideally within the London or Lloyd’s market.
  • Familiarity with insurance processing systems (e.g., Genius, IRIS) is advantageous.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work to tight deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical capability.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
