Overview:
An exciting opportunity for an experienced Underwriter to join a growing portfolio underwriting function, supporting the development, diversification, and profitable management of a global reinsurance portfolio. This broad role combines technical underwriting with portfolio management responsibilities, offering exposure to delegated authority and treaty business while working within a collaborative and high-performing team. The position also provides regular broker and client interaction, alongside opportunities to contribute to operational excellence and mentor junior colleagues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Underwrite delegated authority and treaty business within agreed underwriting authority, guidelines, and business plans.
- Build and manage a profitable and diversified portfolio, achieving targeted premium income and profitability objectives.
- Support ongoing portfolio performance analysis, monitoring results and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Manage underwriting administration, including exposure management, bordereaux queries, and related operational processes.
- Maintain accurate underwriting records and ensure documentation is complete and available for review.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and external stakeholders, providing a high standard of service.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders including claims, finance, credit control, and risk management to support effective portfolio oversight.
- Participate in peer reviews and contribute to a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
- Support the development and mentoring of less experienced team members.
- Represent the business at client and broker meetings, including occasional travel where required.
What We're Looking For:
- Demonstrable experience underwriting profitable global reinsurance business.
- Experience underwriting Delegated Authority and/or Treaty business.
- Strong understanding of the full underwriting lifecycle, including portfolio management and reporting.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, presentation, and decision-making skills.
- Strong organisational and planning abilities with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to build trusted relationships with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills with confidence presenting to both internal and external audiences.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, and the ability to quickly learn new systems.
- A collaborative mindset with a proactive and commercially focused approach.
Desirable but Not Essential:
- ACII qualification or progress towards achieving it.
- Experience supporting underwriting operations and exposure management processes.
- Previous experience mentoring or developing junior colleagues.
