Job Title: Senior FI Underwriter
Location: London/Hybrid
Salary Range: Competitive 
Reporting to: Head of Underwriting


Overview:
An exciting opportunity for an experienced Financial Institutions and Commercial D&O Underwriter to join a growing underwriting business. This role is responsible for underwriting new and existing business, driving profitable portfolio growth, and building strong broker relationships while maintaining high technical standards and regulatory compliance. The position also plays an important role in supporting the wider underwriting team through technical guidance, mentoring, and market insight.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Underwrite new business, renewals, and mid-term adjustments across the Financial Institutions and Commercial D&O portfolio.
  • Develop and grow a profitable portfolio by identifying and securing new business opportunities through broker engagement and networking.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and key external stakeholders.
  • Act as a technical referral point for underwriting colleagues, providing guidance and support where required.
  • Support the Head of Underwriting with resource planning, team performance, recruitment, training, and knowledge sharing.
  • Monitor underwriting performance against agreed KPIs and provide regular updates on portfolio performance.
  • Produce accurate quotations and policy documentation within agreed service standards.
  • Ensure all underwriting activity complies with regulatory requirements, internal governance, and underwriting authority.
  • Maintain accurate underwriting records and ensure systems are kept up to date.
  • Produce and analyse management information and business statistics to support decision making.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and legislative developments, identifying opportunities to improve underwriting performance and product offering.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of existing products and support the creation of new underwriting solutions.
  • Escalate underwriting, operational, or premium-related issues where appropriate.
  • Participate actively in team meetings, encouraging collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and remain up to date with market developments and regulatory changes.


What We're Looking For:
  • Proven underwriting experience within the London Market and/or Lloyd's insurance market.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Financial Institutions and Commercial D&O insurance.
  • Demonstrable experience underwriting profitable business and managing broker relationships.
  • Excellent understanding of insurance market practices, underwriting processes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify growth opportunities while managing risk.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines, and work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience providing technical support or mentoring to colleagues.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret market trends and portfolio performance.


Desirable but Not Essential:
  • University degree, ideally in a business-related discipline.
  • ACII qualification, or currently working towards completion.
  • Knowledge of international insurance markets and cross-border underwriting practices.
  • Experience supporting product development or underwriting strategy initiatives.
