Title: Risk Officer

Location: London
Salary Range: Competitive, dependent on experience
Reporting to: Head of Enterprise Risk Management
Type: Permanent

Overview:

An opportunity for an experienced Risk Officer to support the delivery and continued development of an established Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework within a London Market insurance environment.

The role will play an important part in risk identification, assessment, challenge and reporting, working closely with stakeholders across underwriting, claims, capital and other business functions. You will coordinate key risk processes, including ORSA, risk and control assessments, risk appetite monitoring and special risk reviews, while promoting consistent risk management practices across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the effective operation of the ERM function, including forward planning, deadline management and the coordination of key risk activities.
  • Build strong relationships with first-line business functions, acting as a principal risk contact and providing constructive second-line advice and challenge.
  • Coordinate and project-manage the ORSA process, including the preparation of quarterly and annual reporting.
  • Develop and deliver special risk assessments, ensuring actual and emerging risk exposures are appropriately assessed, challenged and reported.
  • Present risk assessments, findings and management information to senior stakeholders and relevant governance committees.
  • Support the implementation and ongoing development of the organisation’s ERM framework, processes and procedures.
  • Promote a consistent, proportionate and best-practice approach to risk management across the wider business.
  • Provide independent second-line challenge through stakeholder meetings, project boards, risk reviews and governance forums.
  • Support the quarterly Risk and Control Self-Assessment process.
  • Coordinate the production, analysis and reporting of key risk information and management information.
  • Support the implementation of the Risk Appetite Framework, including the quarterly collection, analysis and reporting of risk metrics.
  • Deliver risk management training and share best practice across the organisation.
  • Support the development of colleagues through coaching, mentoring and knowledge sharing.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory conduct standards and relevant regulatory, statutory and supervisory requirements.

What We're Looking For:

  • Proven professional experience within enterprise risk management.
  • Strong understanding of ERM frameworks, risk assessment methodologies and risk reporting.
  • Experience coordinating complex risk processes and delivering high-quality reports to senior stakeholders or governance committees.
  • Ability to build credible relationships with first-line teams and provide effective, independent second-line challenge.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong report-writing and presentation capabilities.
  • Highly analytical, with the ability to identify issues, assess risk exposure and form independent, risk-based opinions.
  • Strong business and financial acumen, with an understanding of how risk management supports wider commercial objectives.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy and quality.
  • Confident problem-solving, decision-making and facilitation skills.
  • Degree-level education or an equivalent relevant professional qualification.

Desirable but Not Essential:

  • Previous experience within the insurance or London Market sector.
  • Knowledge of the principal risk exposures affecting a specialty insurance business.
  • Familiarity with ORSA, Risk and Control Self-Assessments and Risk Appetite Frameworks.
  • Understanding of internal audit and compliance approaches and techniques.
  • Experience coaching, mentoring or supporting the development of colleagues.

About the Company:

A well-established insurance organisation operating within the London Market. The business is recognised for its technical expertise, strong governance and collaborative culture, with a continued focus on maintaining robust risk management practices across its operations. It offers the opportunity to work closely with senior stakeholders and contribute to the development of an established enterprise-wide risk framework.
