Overview:
An exciting opportunity for an experienced Financial Crime professional to join a collaborative compliance function supporting a regulated (re)insurance business. This role focuses on providing expert advisory support across all areas of financial crime compliance, responding to business queries, supporting investigations, and helping ensure ongoing compliance with UK and international regulatory requirements. The position offers broad exposure across sanctions, AML/CTF, fraud, anti-bribery and corruption, market abuse, licensing, and financial crime risk management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide timely, accurate advice on financial crime matters, responding to business queries, referrals, and escalations.
- Assess financial crime risks and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
- Promote a strong culture of compliance by providing guidance and raising awareness across the business.
- Monitor developments in financial crime regulation, including UK, EU, US and UN sanctions, AML/CTF, fraud, and related legislative changes.
- Support licensing and regulatory authorisation compliance by providing advice on permissions and regulatory obligations.
- Assist with AML due diligence processes, including responding to Know Your Customer (KYC) requests from third parties.
- Review and resolve escalated financial crime screening alerts using a risk-based approach.
- Support the review and maintenance of financial crime policies, procedures, and governance documentation.
- Maintain financial crime and licensing records, ensuring accurate audit trails and regulatory documentation.
- Assist with the investigation of financial crime incidents and support regulatory reporting where required.
- Prepare management information and reports for senior stakeholders and governance committees.
- Contribute to financial crime risk assessments, control enhancements, horizon scanning, training, communications, and wider compliance initiatives.
- Support ongoing projects aimed at strengthening the financial crime framework and regulatory compliance.
What We're Looking For:
- Minimum four years' experience in a Financial Crime or Compliance role within the (re)insurance sector.
- Previous experience working within a financial crime advisory and investigations function.
- Strong knowledge of UK, EU, US and UN sanctions regimes and their application within insurance or reinsurance.
- Good understanding of AML/CTF, anti-bribery and corruption, fraud, market abuse, and wider financial crime regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess complex regulatory issues.
- Ability to communicate technical compliance matters clearly to a broad range of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated risk-based approach to decision-making and investigations.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong written communication skills with experience producing guidance, procedures, and regulatory documentation.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships across the business.
Desirable but Not Essential:
- Experience advising on regulatory licensing and authorisation requirements within the (re)insurance sector.
- Experience investigating suspected fraud and supporting the implementation of anti-fraud controls and frameworks.
- Experience contributing to financial crime projects, policy development, or regulatory change initiatives.
