Job Title: Cyber Data & Catastrophe Analyst
Location: London / Hybrid (with occasional travel)
Salary Range: Competative
Reporting to: Senior Cyber Actuary
Type: Permanent

Overview:
This role sits within a specialist cyber risk and catastrophe modelling function focused on strengthening underwriting strategy, risk appetite setting, and accumulation control across cyber lines of business. The position plays a key part in developing and maintaining analytical frameworks, models, and reporting tools that support informed decision-making around both affirmative and non-affirmative cyber exposures.

You will work at the intersection of data, cyber risk, and insurance modelling, translating complex datasets and emerging cyber threat intelligence into actionable insights that shape portfolio strategy and risk controls across a wider group environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the bi-annual cyber line-of-business breakdown process, including data collection, validation, analysis, and production of reporting outputs (Power BI dashboards and formal reports), engaging with stakeholders for review and feedback
  • Cleanse, process, and manage exposure and claims data within SQL-based systems, ensuring accuracy and usability for modelling and reporting
  • Support the development and enhancement of cyber accumulation control frameworks across both affirmative and non-affirmative exposures
  • Maintain and refine cyber risk scenarios and contribute to the application of catastrophe modelling techniques and other quantitative approaches
  • Identify and integrate relevant internal and external data sources to improve scenario design and cyber risk insight generation
  • Support validation of external vendor models and contribute to understanding of the wider modelling ecosystem
  • Calculate Probable Maximum Loss (PML) estimates and support risk appetite calibration across portfolios
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of data collection processes, including exploration of machine learning and text analytics for cyber intelligence
  • Translate conceptual risk ideas into structured mathematical and statistical models for loss simulation
  • Communicate model outputs, assumptions, and uncertainties clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Stay current with developments in cyber security research and emerging risk trends
  • Support market intelligence outputs, including contributing content and improving presentation quality and structure
  • Work independently and collaboratively to solve complex modelling and data challenges

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience in catastrophe modelling, exposure management, or a similar risk analytics function
  • Strong capability in building and maintaining risk scenarios, including both narrative development and quantitative loss modelling
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong programming skills in R or Python
  • Solid understanding of statistics and probability theory
  • Experience working with large, complex datasets including SQL databases
  • Ability to extract insight from data and translate findings into clear business recommendations
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to varied audiences
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities effectively
  • Experience in cyber risk, insurance, or a related technical domain (e.g. cyber security, risk modelling, or actuarial science)

Desirable but Not Essential:

  • Formal qualification or training in cyber security or a related field
  • Experience with machine learning or natural language processing techniques
  • Familiarity with vendor catastrophe modelling tools and validation processes
  • Exposure to insurance accumulation control frameworks
  • Experience working in a cross-functional or group-level risk environment

About the Company:
A well-established international insurance organisation operating across multiple lines of business, with a strong reputation for technical excellence in risk underwriting and modelling. The business has a collaborative, analytically driven culture and is investing in advanced data capabilities, cyber risk frameworks, and innovation in catastrophe modelling to support long-term portfolio resilience and strategic growth.
