JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title:                    Casualty Apprentice, BMS Re

Reports to:                         Director, BMS Re

Location:                             London

 

Summary of Position:

This position is working with the Casualty team within our Reinsurance department at BMS and is the ideal opportunity for an aspiring insurance professional to join a growing and busy business, building towards being the leading London independent specialist in its fields.


The apprentice will work closely with Brokers, Account Handlers, Claims and others with exposure across a wide range of business lines.

 

This is an opportunity to learn ‘on the job’ in a dynamic and collaborative environment whilst earning an industry-recognised qualification at the same time.

 

Alongside the on-the-job development, the apprentice will also enrol onto the Level 3 Insurance Practitioner course, completing the Certificate in Insurance from the Chartered Institute of Insurance. The course will cover the following knowledge areas:

  • Insurance market
  • Risk and regulatory
  • Processes and procedures
  • Commercial awareness

 

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Assisting in the co-ordination of the placement of risks, including production of documentation to assist placement and maintenance throughout the risk life cycle (Underwriting Submissions, Market Reform Contracts, Wordings, Endorsements)
  • Developing technical knowledge and ability to communicate this to various audiences (insureds, retailers, wholesalers, underwriters and internal stakeholders)
  • Assist Account Handler and Broker ensuring that accounts are serviced efficiently and professionally
  • Assist in the monitoring and maintenance of workflow, budgetary records, debit notes and policy wordings
  • Assist Brokers and Account Handlers to identify opportunities for business development
  • Develop knowledge on regulatory requirements (Contract Certainty, LMBS, FCA and international requirements)
  • Develop skills which enable and encourage interaction and collaboration with other divisional units
  • Adhere to company and regulatory policies, procedures together with mandatory training requirements.

Entry Requirements

  • At least five GCSE’s with grades 9-4/A*-C, including English and Maths
  • Level 3 qualifications such as A Levels, NVQ or BTEC

 

Apprentices without English or Maths at Level 2 must achieve this prior to completion of the Apprenticeship.
